Life naturally likes to throw obstacles. I cannot imagine what it would be like to coach a football team only to find that you were facing surgery because a player inadvertently hit you as he slid off the field. I cannot imagine playing in a small pond only to discover that you are now on the big stage. Is an obstacle good or bad? Will it potentially change everything in a moment? What will life be like from this moment forward?
A man and a woman discovered each event recently. Some already see them as an obstacle; from all that I read both see the events as opportunities. The immediate impact is change, potential turmoil, and to varying degrees pain. Their stories can be repeated with variations in far too many lives. Life is never constant. Events happen without warning or anticipation. The fact that they can and will occur is increasingly a given, not an exception.
How you describe the obstacles in your life is personally unique. Often one has no idea what is about to unfold. This happen yesterday, the time Saul set off. When he got to the outskirts of Damascus, he was suddenly dazed by a blinding flash of light.” (Acts 9.3) Was it going to unfold? Was it going to be a good thing or bad? Could he use it to his advantage? The questions are still repeating, in your life and in mine.
I would like to suggest that the answers to these questions are not relevant, then or now. Questions that are more important are found in each moment. We need to wrestle with each. Am I willing to see each moment as an opportunity regardless of the circumstances? Will I accept Hope's hand in every situation? Can I act with compassion in the present?
I am profoundly touched by the present of Divinity in the moments at hand. God is involved in your life and mine, even when I am busy. Divinity loves us, even as we focus on self. We have an amazing opportunity within our grasp.
