Being away for two weeks seems like forever. Even with two holidays in the middle, the team in Singapore has been busy. While I kept up with the emails from a distance, the physical reality of it all is quite different. The one recurring question that keeps coming up is my belief. Do I think we are going to achieve the next big deliverable? Am I confident we are going to win?
In case you are wondering, I believe.
Having given you the punch line, I would go on to say that there is more to the story.
Like anything that is complex, hard, and difficult, there are reasons to be worried. Clearly there are risks to our plan. Uncertainty is a familiar friend. Dependencies are everywhere I look. Above all, there are the people one must depend on and the relationships between everyone.
It is not easy to get a clear picture. Everyone is trying to help. I have long lost count of the moving pieces. I wish things were as simple as the ones the Roman Captain had in dealing with the chaos around Paul. One author recounts his response; “The next day, determined to get to the root of the trouble and know for sure what was behind the Jewish accusation, the captain released Paul and ordered a meeting of the high priests and the High Council to see what they could make of it. Paul was led in and took his place before them.” (Acts 22.30) One solution. One order. Problem sorted.
Today will be the beginning of pulling the strings into place. There is a story hidden just beyond my view. Early indications are that there is a lot of good news mixed in with areas of concern and uncertainty. The questions will be important. Listening for the whole story is even more critical. Understanding will only come with time.
The stage will be changing quickly. Being engaged, participating in the process, and asking questions is part of the opportunity to make a difference. It is here now as am I.
