The conference call was interesting, assuming you worked in the area and wanted to be involved. Otherwise, I cannot imagine anyone staying awake through the forty minutes. The talk was animated and lively. Everyone brought her/is perspective to the table. As the next steps begin to appear, individuals were nominated and others stepped up to take on the tasks. It all made sense when it come with context.
As I read the meeting minutes in the gray dawn, I realize that no one person around the table could see the picture or had the answer. It will take more than an individual to tackle the question and uncertainty. Each will need to play her/his part in order for us to see success.
Some of the roles are mundane. I am not trying to minimize them. They are crucial in context. In the base, core facts needed to be brought to the table. I contributed me piece in a matter of minutes. It was very simple. I can see how the pieces will fit. This is one of the obvious when done but not so obvious at the moment type of step.
It is easy to forget how critical teamwork and others can be, if you want to accomplish more. It is a wisdom note that has repeated itself across our history. When a centurion needed to accomplish a mission, he knew he could not do it by himself. Instead, he set a series of motions in order. First, “the soldiers, following orders, took Paul that same night to safety in Antipatris. [Then,] in the morning the soldiers returned to their barracks in Jerusalem, sending Paul on to Caesarea under guard of the cavalry.” (Acts 23.31, 32)
Today will be filled with questions and doubts. The answers will not come easily. The challenge is not a willingness issue. It starts with size and scope. Life is greater than you or me. We cannot see far enough. We do not have enough strength. Even our collective wisdom may not be deep enough. We need each other and More.
