The past week has been stormy. Unreasonableness seems to be a norm. Selfish politics while talking about teamwork appears to be acceptable. Uncertainty is a given. In the mix of everything, blame flies around from where you least expect it. While it has gotten marginally better, everything that has gone wrong still exists in one form or another. I could say that politics, dysfunction, and chaos are far more normal than anything otherwise. However, that is not what stands out.
I find myself looking back and not being able to see the negatives. If I was a sailor, I could say that “we came under the lee of the small island named Clauda, and managed to get a lifeboat ready and reef the sails.” (Acts 27.16) We are ready for the chaos. We are dealing with the uncertainty. We are moving things forward, if only a bit in the storm. There is cause for hope even as we prepare for the fresh storms that will come in the near future.
I am amazed at how some react when cornered. I see hope when an angry man who is boxed can express the vision and light he can see at the end of the tunnel. He went from silence to being passionate about the way forward. He knew what he needed to do and how it fit into the larger picture. He was ready to act. In the moment of no options, he took the courageous step into something much better than what anyone could see or imagine.
I am surprised how energizing a team becomes when they believe in something. Listless eyes give was to solutions and visions. It is as if they have discovered what it is like to belong. In this new community, visions become reality.
I am taught by the willingness of some to pursue a dream while still dealing with yesterday’s failure. What does it matter if we have failed twice before. We are with today! Anything is possible.
I know there is hope in today. I have seen it in action.
