The meeting has been in my diary for weeks. It is a extended version of a regular call that occurs every week at this time. The challenge in this case was not the meeting per se but the fact that there were two meetings back to back before it and meetings that followed. I had every intention in making the meeting. I also knew it was going to be tough to be there precisely when it was supposed to start.
Deep in an intense conversation, I realized I needed to wrap it up and get to the next call. My statement that “I’ve got to go” was made and ignored as the conversation continued. The second “I’ve got to go” was acknowledge by one who said he did as well followed by an immediate exit sound.
“I really have to go.”
My computer chirped. I looked down to see a communicator message, “are you able to join us?” A second message, this one an email, with the same question was unopened in my mailbox. I really did have to go.
The communicator chirped again. It was time.
As I introduced myself on the call, the organizer was appreciative and positive. “Thank-you for your time.” My inbox blipped and a written thank-you was waiting for me to open. Part of me wondered if it was a cynical gesture, but the tone of the words and the voice on the line said otherwise. I was valued. My time was appreciated.
To note, I am not the big guy on the call. First, I am the newest. Second, most if not all are more established and have a stronger power base. Knowing that my views are valued makes a difference.
As I read a comment in a larger story, one of David’s, I was struck by a seemingly small fact that I often miss. He wrote, “Be here – the king is wild for you. Since he’s your lord, adore him.” (Psalm 45.11) Someone was looking for him. Someone adored him.
Note to self; God adores and wants you/me.
