A California worship band wrote a song that refuses to leave the back of a mind. The group is in the middle of a world tour and was scheduled to be in Singapore for a day. With a bit a research and a credit card, tickets for the event found their way to my house. As I approached the event, the excitement and sense of anticipation of spending an evening with friends and great music continued to grow.
As I look back, a white man who does not dance, I realize that there is only one way to describe my anticipation when the band took the stage; “I’m ready, God, so ready, ready from head to toe, ready to sing, ready to raise a tune:” (Psalm 57.7)
I thought I was prepared. I thought I was ready. As we stood, moved, and yes danced for two plus hours, it was as if a wave of things pent up released themselves. To my surprise the final song got to me, specifically the second verse (thanks Jesus Culture!).
“You spin over me, and you are pleased when I spend myself on you
I’m gonna let go now, really worship, letting my dance come forth”
I look across faith systems and see amazing Jewish and Hindu dances, celebrating Divinity in all forms. While always enjoying movement with music, there was something more in this experience. It was a wonderful release of spirit and soul that wrapped each other in an unadulterated expression of heart centered emotions. When combined with thousands around me, wow, this moment etched itself in my memories. Mind tags already linked to the images and emotions include incredible, stunning, heart stopping, and changing.
As I look back at the event the message was a simple one – pursue God. It is a message that crosses faith systems, ways of thinking, pain, and anger. Pursue Truth. Pursue Hope. Pursue Compassion, Mercy, and Love. Pursue God…and God will find you. In your doubts, fears, God will find you. Experience validates the promise; in pursuing, you will find God’s embrace.
