Today is a recurring day of remembrance where I remember and reflect on the ways I have witness Divinity in action. Beyond the one off moments where good dominated, there are the instances where Divine action guided, remained in attendance just in case, and was instrumental in bringing hope and possibilities to life.
I do not think everyone involved saw it. God work is often buried in life’ pain and uncertainty. Evil is a cunning adversary that is determined to take everything thing it can in anyways it can. One underestimates the power and pull of evil at the risk of everything compassionate and caring.
I know we were not sure what the future was going to hold. In our fear, the presence of God was not enough. We were looking for particular outcomes. In truth, it was much stronger than the words suggests. We needed, wanted specific results. Anything else would have, in the opinion at the time, a victory or at least partial victory by evil. In our actions, hells of our own creation lived and continued.
I witnessed Divinity at work. I use the first person not because I do not think others did not see it, I am confident they did. I can only give witness to what I saw and experienced. In Divine work it always takes two, a giver and accepting receiver. The receiver plays an important role. In the cases I am reflecting on they had decisions to take, disciplines to follow, and many stretch challenges. Not every step was a success, yet in the decisions together with Divine action that followed I witnessed multiple births of living examples of God in individual lives.
In a morning’s quietness, it is good to reflect on the living replays. It never stops with the past. It always moves into the present because “when the righteous see God in action they’ll laugh, they’ll sing, they’ll laugh and sing for joy.” (Psalm 68.3) Every smile is an affirmation of Divine engagement and laughter a bundle of hope for those watching and listening.
