Other than to note that it is an outcome of Evil’s hand, I no explanation for pain, death, or terror. I understand that there are those across time that accuse God of only taking care of some, not all. I can see the irony of an all powerful all wise God that seems unable or unwilling to prevent the occurrence of evil that touches your life and mine.
Wonderfully lovable, kind, and compassionate lives are cut short by disease as well as from the hand of others without. The horrific actions of a few impact the lives of the many. Innocents are brutally attacked from within and without. With this reality, we see good and God remaining silent far more often than seeing action to guard, protect, or heal.
As I wrestle with the emotions within that refuse to be quiet, I think of recent visible loss of life in Paris, Beirut, Syria, Turkey, and in every metropolitan city. Some were reported, others passed without apparent notice except to the family and friends of those involved. It seems obvious, forcing me to say, “God, you did walk off and leave us, you lost your temper with the one you anointed.” (Psalm 89.38)
In my loss of explanation, I also see the face of others who survived. I close my eyes and the resurrection of many who others that would not, could not make it, stand and fight! It is in their willingness to fight and fight on that I see the proof of Love, Compassion, and a greater Spirit.
Life is more than our tragedies and sorrow. Life is the actions you and I take to live out engaged lives of good. It is in our striving to be messengers of compassion that Evil stands confronted. It is in our embrace of our communities that we build a barrier that those who represent Evil cannot penetrate. It is in living for More that we echo divinity’s best.
Every corner of the world has its trouble. In the midst, I also see courage, commitment, and Hope.
