Today is special. It is a day for a wedding, a time of celebration, and a moment to look forward with home while being totally in the moment. It is a time when everything in our lives comes into focus and we say with confidence to another “your love never fails, it never gives up, and never runs out on me.” (Brian Johnson, Jeremy Riddle, and Christa Black). I am looking forward to representing the prayers and hopes of family and friends in offering our affirmation and blessing on their commitment and union.
As I look back, I am struck by the telltales along the way. What was initially a heart connection morphed into more. With time and experience the seeds of love and commitment grew to the point that at least one was expressing confidence that this was the missing and undiscovered part of her/his heart.
Confidence in a relationship is one of life’s rare gifts. It is hard to find and even more difficult to keep. Experience suggests that it can be problematic, even when there is experience to the contrary. I look back and wonder why anyone of one era could question Divinity and yet they did; “Are we no more to you than a wispy dream, no more than a blade of grass.” (Psalm 90.5) I consider my life and on the best days I remember the endless gifts of love, relationship, beauty, wonder, and hope. There are reasons to believe.
My reminders today are threefold.
Remember. Take time to remember love and the moments you knew with your heart.
Accept the affirmation and blessings of others, especially in matters of love. Each carries the impossible to a place of possibility and truth.
Embrace and act on the truth of love. Use with confidence knowing that at times your choice will be rest more on a memory than your view of reality, on faith rather than a feeling of fact. Acts of love nurture truth by embracing it with hope and life.
Love is an action that reflects the Divinity within us.
