One learns a lot by the treatment s/he receives as a visitor. As I returned to a familiar setting as a visitor recently, I embraced with warmth, laughter, and sense of being part of an extended family. As I reflect on what I experienced along with the other visitors, I find myself holding the following treasures.
Being embraced is a gift. One can be acknowledged out of respect. Once can be welcomed out of duty and protocol. It is even possible to welcome, acknowledge and invite one to stay for a time because of one’s sense of duty. When each element combines with a metaphorical embrace the act of those calling this place home is a unique and proprietary gift! As a visitor, one’s role is to receive with heart felt thankfulness.
How one is treated as a visitor speaks to the values of the home. When one metaphorically “treated their clans like well-cared-for sheep,” (Psalm 107.41) the best things at home are shared unconditionally. Hospitality, food, refreshments, and most importantly conversations created an experience that wrapped itself around my heart and mind. I have been touched by deep values of community, caring, and compassion. I have been lifted by a passion for living fully and completely. I have been seen and welcomed with kindness and charity.
Everything pivots in the moments we have. When the past and the future meet in the present, history and possibilities find themselves energizing and expanding the opportunity to experience the best things in life. My experience reminds me that life’s best starts and ends with the relationships we have with each other.
It was amazing to visit. I am excited about the possibilities it has created within me. I am also determined to share what I have experienced with the visitors in my life. This experience reminds me that this is a call to everyone will to be divine. It is an opportunity to give what cannot be purchased or acquired. In using freedom this way, we lift others and ourselves towards beauty’s presence and an embrace of love.
