In every quest, at a specific moment in time, one has an opportunity to be aware and understand that s/he is in a season. A wisdom note that is often heard as a cliché based on a song from the 50’s is “that to everything there is a season, turn, turn, turn”. As ho-hum as it seems, I was recently reminded that each season has its own value and impact on one’s self.
I have come to appreciate individuals who choose their season. It is as if the spirit within them is guiding, gently pushing and pulling them into a state of being where the connection upwards and outwards, to divinity and to individuals and living creatures around them, is a way that optimizes living itself.
As I watch, reflect, and embrace, I find the season of being present and available a metaphor for the spring. It is as if one’s heart has weather the dark night of the soul to find itself ready to embrace and move on life. As eager as one’s heart can be, the mind knows that it is not quite time. Living it seems is one of receiving and giving to and from one’s heart and soul. The keys I have observed include the following.
Being fully present. Often accompanied by stillness, openness, and readiness, it is an intentional act where one is sensitive to everything around one’s self – seen, felt, and sensed. There is little to no judgement at this act, just openness. The primary intent appears to be the gift of listening, sharing one’s company, and experiencing the fullness of beauty, wonder, and awe – things present.
Being engaged. There is no hesitation when spoken to or touched. Rather a measured and honest response, often filled with an appreciation that only comes from being able to fully see and feel.
Being active yet reflective. One writer left us with an observation that applies; “I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it.” (Psalm 119.15)
While there are other seasons, I really enjoy this one.
