A friend took me on a walk. Even with the reality of being several time zones apart, we stepped through several pivot moments in our lives. Between our collective memories, we reconstructed the events and filled in the missing pieces in each perspective. In thinking back, I realized I had been guided by a modern psalmist; “remember how he promised God, made a vow to the Strong God of Jacob,” (Psalm 132.2)
It was a good journey with several surprises and wrinkles. I have been reminded of the following.
In remembering, I rediscovered several values I still hold within my heart. It is not as if they ever went away. I think there are times where I lost sight of them, wandering without the focused intent I bring when I am at my best.
In looking through another eyes, I came face to face with the realities of choices, actions, and outcomes. While I can remember being reflective during those periods of my life, our conversation revealed new lessons for the present. They are gems which only have value when I recognize them and put them to use. If they had remained hidden in the past, it is clear they would have eventually faded from my view. In seeing the lessons applied immediately, I find myself longing for more conversations and journeys!
Many of my life’s pivotal moments involve others. In some, I am the mentor and guide. With most, I am gifted with a lesson which informed my life in a unique way. I look back and think of my first boss and the confidence he repeatedly placed in me. I see a housewife on an island in a Maine bay, wondering if she had any idea how she changed my life during our short experience together. The stories continue to emerge, many with a meal and conversation. Each was a moment where Divinity spoke and acted through someone in my life.
To each who played a role, thank you. Through you, Divinity touched my heart, informed my experience, and created a line of insight.
