Telltales on a sail are powerful stories about the wind, influences, and possibilities. While everyone can see them in action, the story is only heard by those willing to observe, listen, and use the experience which follows. I have come to appreciate the ways Divinity places telltales along the path of my life. When I observe, listen and use the experiences which follows, the telltales reveal themselves as guideposts and reference points.
Telltale lessons include the following.
People signal their beliefs through their actions and choices. Care and kindness are hard to hide! In fact, these two telltales are often found in the company of empathy and compassion. Even in moments of stress and the quietness found when nobody is paying attention, I find individuals who echo the heart of Divine love. Equally, when self dominates, it manifests itself in all kinds of ways. Words, presence, and actions are just the beginning.
Confidence and a sense of peace flows from individuals connected to the Divine. The psalmist words continually replay across the generations, “And I know that the righteous personally thank you, that good people are secure in your presence.” (Psalm 140.13). In my observations, there is a correlation between humbleness and closeness to Divinity. It is as if self takes a back seat to the power and magnitude of love.
Society values of power, status, and wealth are not linked to the first two lessons. From my earliest memories, people who did not have anything the world values carried the best stories of how Divinity was working in their lives. When I close my eyes and think of Divine voices, hands, ears, and feet, I see the faces of rich and poor, old and young, powerful and innocent. Divinity’s family comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. It is extraordinary how the telltales of God are able to change the lives around them, including my own.
As I turn myself towards Divinity’s wind, I aspire to be a telltale of care and kindness. May I do no harm as an agent for healing and restoration.
