On a day tinged with sadness, there is the certainty of Hope. I wonder how different life would be if I was certain today’s sadness would be replaced by the certainty of Hope gifted through a resurrection. It is easy to look back at history through the eyes of one wanting to believe. It is a very different challenge to look forward while hearing the whispers of fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
I have been working on an initiative for months. There are days where I find myself overwhelmed by darkness, wondering if the goals will ever see the dawn of a new day. Uncertainty and doubt can dominate one’s thinking, often leading to the conclusion that trying is pointless. In the darkest of these moments, I find myself a character in an old story. “The Messiah’s Spirit let them in on some of it – that the Messiah would experience suffering, followed by glory. They clamored to know who and when.” (1 Peter 1.11) While I would settle for the when, I also want to know who ultimately decides stick with the journey.
A quiet Life whisper suggested that I look at the situation differently. If there was certainty in bringing a community to a better place then where it is today, does the size and mix of the community change how one hears the calling? There is a growing voice in my life, calling me to remain focused and committed. “Be aware while enduring. Be compassionate while passionately moving forward.”
As I consider the advantages and risks of knowing, the opportunity in Spirit awareness is as simple as it is challenging. Being informed in advance will not change the reality of the current hardships and challenges. However, knowing Divinity is aware and with me in the darkness is also an invitation to follow the path where Divinity’s children have already gone. It is in doing what is right that I open myself up to the future.
Fear, uncertainty, and doubt are powerful warriors, often tearing at one’s soul. Knowing one’s calling is a Divine gift.
