The cloud patterns dancing on the desert floor were interesting to reflect on. From many vantage points in the Emirates, hills, tall buildings, and beyond, the scene repeats. I have come to appreciate the way one cloud will establish a pattern, only for others to follow with dark variations on the sand below in harmony with the sun and wind. As I watched the scenes play out, I caught myself listening to lesson whispers.
In the heat of life, there is still room to dance. I often forget that hot days do not mean days without wind or clouds. While it is unlikely to rain, clouds love to dance with the wind and sun in all kinds of temperatures. Intense heat is just one scene. Others include the cool winds in the season as well as ones with the labels gusty and dusty. Each sets the scenes with dancing patterns repeated by others following their lead.
The clouds playing with the sun, wind, and sand created patterns and lessons on navigating any given day. I found myself thinking of working with others, even those with very different agendas. I considered the description of my actions, realizing that I could easily be wearing a label shared with others who love compassion, caring, and community. I found myself enjoying the honour of knowing that this label was never about just one, “it’s also us! The same thing gets said about us when we embrace and believe the One who brought Jesus to life when the conditions were equally hopeless.” (Romans 4.24)
Our patterns emerge from the choices and actions taken. Where we decide to be. How we choose to live. What actions we embrace. Each decision and choice position us in the shadow we leave behind us as we face the day’s sun. We can randomly flounder or we can strive to be intentional. As fearful as this might seem, it is an opportunity entrusted to each in the present moment. The decision sits within our hearts and minds.
Today is my opportunity to live fully and completely.
