As I walked down the hallway, every door looked the same. I have no idea what is behind any one of them, other than my own. As I walked through the quiet dusty streets of Al Mina, I looked at warehouse doors, having no idea what was behind any door. Even the memory of a door in London took me to the same place. There are doors into my future. How do I know which one to is the right one for me?
A door is a choice. It will lead somewhere. Taking time to consider is always a good thing. Taking too long rarely helps. Doors can be toward the future or to the past. I am reminded of the importance of choice, intent, and learning from the doors in my life.
Appearances are not links to what is behind the door. Candidly, while there are ways to improve the likelihood of moving towards a better future, what is on the door has no correlation. As I think of the doors I passed through, many were taken in times of trouble and distress. There were reasons for my decision, however, appearances were not one of them.
When someone extends an invitation to a doorway, trust and faith are important factors. I have permission trusted brothers and sisters. When s/he recommends, I am predisposed to say yes. For others, the invitation should come with a warning. “Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person did it wrong and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, another person did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life!” (Romans 5.18)
Today is a door that will open into the immediate pathway ahead. There are choices to be made. There are hands to hold, burdens to bear. It is time to bold step forward, learn, and grow. Every moment is a doorway to a future of our making. Fortune favours the bold, especially when taken with compassion, care, and community.
