I stood silently as the wind pushed the fountain’s water. Just like the waves in a storm, my light of sight blurred in the distance. Life’s events and the memories that are lost over time were illustrated this afternoon. In today’s sunrise, the wind coming off the sea is creating a reflection of ripples across the soul of the city.
Then and now, I am taken to memories long left in the corner. I remember, with thanksgiving, the individuals who were and are part of my heart and mind. Some are no longer with us. Others live on, unaware of the impact that continues to unfold from their gifts of friendship and kindness. I find myself echoing an old writer; “Hello to Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and also to all of their families.” (Romans 16.14). May your lives be filled with peace and hope.
In the reflection, I hear life’s whispers taking me for a walk. They replay the details, increasing my awareness and appreciation. They ask the questions I avoided at the time. In all stages of learning and growth, one can learn and grow even more.
A heart of thankfulness is always appropriate, especially when confronted with fear, uncertainty, and pain. When I express the thankfulness of my heart and mind, I share the gift that is restoring my soul. The gift comes from without, others along the way, each a Divine child.
A view through the lens of hope is our best future. It is too easy to sense the darkness, giving it more power than it has. With one candle, darkness can vanish. When we wear glasses of hope and possibilities, the light follows. I know a door to something better can be found with each sliver of light. Divinity has been known as the god of fire. I know her as a candle that changes everything.
I see the ripples in the day ahead as small waves to be ridden with hope and thankfulness. I will get wet. Life is always moving, inviting one to be alive in the moment.
