The sign in a familiar area caught my attention. The sign spoke to priority and privilege. I could feel the exclusivity even as we approached. It felt like the spaces were larger and easy to access. I knew there was a valet service for the mall. The stage was set, except I knew better. The spaces on this side of the garage are the same size as the ones on the other side and the floors below. There were no barriers to access. While the option for using the valet was available, it was not mandatory. Some look at the sign as exclusive. Paraphrasing an old observation: “I took another good look at what’s going on: The very place of judgment – corrupt!” (Ecclesiastes 3.16)
Life is an equal opportunity to make a difference. There are no colour, gender, or cultural barriers. What I see as impact is a construct that ignores the equality found across individuals who are all members of the same family. When I strip things back, I find that the priority spaces in my life are open to everyone. In a surprising echo of the parking space, Divinity invites everyone, starting with myself and extending to the powerful and weak, the rich and the poor, those who are alone and those surrounded by family and friends. Each is offered a personalised relationship where she empowers each with the ability to make a difference in their world.
One’s calling to make a difference is the opportunity to represent Divinity in our moment. We own the moment. We have the power to embrace and respond to our call to action. We may think the response does not mean very much. In doing this, I make a critical mistake. I have no idea how important this moment could be. More importantly, I forget the message I am personally delivering to my heart and mind. With Divinity, no moment is so small that it can be ignored.
Access to the VIP area is open and ready for use. What I do with my freedom will write the story of what I do with Divinity’s reservation.
