Sand is in almost every view. Wherever I look, I see sand or a reminder of sand nearby. I have come to appreciate the beauty one finds in an arid land. When I experience the beauty and awe that is naturally infused in a blossom, I am reminded that one can flourish in any circumstance. In the sand, one finds humidity and signs of growth. There are reminders when one is inside of what is waiting to be experienced when s/he ventures out. One has a choice: s/he can retreat from life, or s/he can venture out into the unknown. There are no guarantees that it will be easy. Flourishing is not found in a retreat. It’s the result of hard work, overcoming obstacles, and fulfilling one’s purpose.
Flourishing is more than time. Flourishing expands and grows as I respond to my ‘why’ (the reasons I am here) and ‘how’ (what I choose to do while I am here). It has never been about life’s length. Remember, “Even if someone lived a thousand years – make it two thousand! – but didn’t enjoy anything, what’s the point? Doesn’t everyone end up in the same place?” (Ecclesiastes 6.6) As I continue the process of rediscovering my purpose, I clarify my why. In taking in nature’s beauty, pondering the wonder of design, and discovering awe as it all comes together, I find my calling to action and living with a difference.
Every day is a unique opportunity. It is a time of revelation followed by restoration and recreation. I can choose to reveal the Divinity I have experienced. This includes her unconditional commitment to accept and embrace every child. Her unconditional love and presence in every circumstance. Life’s whispers remind me of her enduring patience and resolve to cheer me on and lift me up.
I can be the difference, for myself and others. I can be the flower blooming in a blue life. I can choose to share myself with others, blessing them in silence with my willingness to be present and to share what I have.
