Once you find the perfect swimming hole there is no need to search for something better or different or more. This is an assumption most people would make, but then you and I do not see things through the eyes of a teenager! The kids wanted to run, dip, and play with the dogs in the river. The key criteria changed; access, ability for dogs to run easily, and places to explore.
The impact of this choice was a great experience. We found a new way to enjoy the river, the memory banks filled to flowing over, and our options increased. Our imaginations of what made a spot in the river good for playing expanded and, as a result, we are on the outlook for even more new adventures.
Do things always stay the way they were? Do those of yesterday set the criteria for today and tomorrow? Do I really want to enjoy life’s fullness, to realize my potential?
Those of yesterday have set strict parameters around what it means to follow God. There are clear elements that worked for them, but do any of us have the complete picture? At times the strict viewpoints seem to hinder rather than help. Net, net, “its effect [insider hardness and apathy] is to open things up to all the outsiders so that we end up with a full house.” (Romans 11.25)
God is looking to reach and touch each of us in every way possible so that we will respond to the unconditional offer of love and restoration. You and I have equal access and standing before God. We come on the same basis, God grace, and through the same channel, Jesus Christ. We may not know the specific names, terms, or process, but our response is valid regardless. At times we talk with God through aliases; not the best, however, it is the conversation that is important!
God is looking for the full restoration of every person, no exceptions. God continues to open his doors for you and I. It is our choice to walk in.
