Emotions are strange animals, especially for men. We’re often controlled by them. We clearly seek to orchestrate their realization. We can find ourselves fighting the demons within, only to discover they are here, created, invited, and nurtured by our heart’s desires. Yet as intensely as we experience emotions, as often as we fight them, I find that I often don’t really understand much, if anything, about them. It is as if these things have far more access to my heart than I do to them.
At some point in my youth I found myself in the emotional wash of becoming alive. Until that point I had no idea why I was reacting the way I was. With enlightenment I understood the “what” in my life. Yet the underlying insight and knowledge of the powerful forces which continued to shape my reactions and choices to the world around me sat just beyond my ability to understand. With gray hairs and age, not much has or is changing.
My insights into God were closely aligned with my emotions. I’m not sure I saw them differently. There is a critical difference which I found walking with Divinity. Our God invites us into a mutual understanding of each other. It is in God’s intimate knowledge of me that Divine love takes on new dimensions. When I understood God’s invitation to take on the role of Divinity’s hands, eyes, ears, and voice in context of God’s insight, I found myself redefined, energized, and empowered.
You have the same standing I do with God. I may, only may, have opened myself up to the possibilities which exist for both of us, yet we stand equal before God. My opportunities are yours and yours mine. We are on a journey where our lives are at risk. Everything is possible – for good and bad. Anything can be achieved – we have God on our side. Most importantly, we can intimately know who walks beside us.
“O God, our God, we've had other masters rule us, but you're the only Master we've ever known.” (Isaiah 26.13)
