Watching a team working together is incredible. The venue does not really matter. It could be a pit-crew in any type of racing, a volleyball team working in seamless harmony, or even a corporate team leveraging each other's strengths to achieve the seemingly impossible. The combination of harmony, leverage, and momentum that comes from the willingness of individuals to move together as a community is awe-inspiring. Having watched and at times participated in teams that work, I find myself consistently longing to go back to that space in the journey.
As I observe from a distance, there are several characteristics are inherent in all great teams.
First, great teams enjoy the teamwork. They appear to be feeding on the rush that comes from working together. You can feel their happiness.
Second, great teams do stuff! They work together in pushing the boundaries on what others think is impossible. Action, moving, and fluid often come to mind.
Third, great teams celebrate diversity with a harmony of purpose. While not always true, the greatest of the great ones seem to have the quality in excessive amounts.
Even in reflection I find myself energized by the efforts of others in great teams I have had the honor of being a part of. Their names are obviously only relevant to my journey and yet they tell a great story of the past and present hope for the future. You and I can write new history today. We can be an honor guard for God inspired communities in the places we find ourselves. We can make a difference.
Not all great teams win all the time. That is not the point. It is the process and the effort that makes them history makers. The invitation comes with the dawn. We can be part of God's team in this moment. We can be catalyst for a new story.
“The congregation thought this was a great idea. They went ahead and chose-Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, Nicolas, a convert from Antioch.” (Acts 6.5)
