“So trust him absolutely, people; lay your lives on the line for him, God is a safe place to be.” Psalm 62.8
Trust is a decision without meaning until we play it out in our actions. We often base our ability to trust on personal experiences. This is fine when we have a well to tap, however what about the first time? How does one leap off the bridge when you are afraid of heights!
This is especially true when one faces the daily decision of placing trust in God. Consistently challenging our decision to trust God is our “pre-“ and “mis-” conceptions. We, I, cannot seem to let go of our/my belief that God wants behavior from us and is toying with our lives. At time we take our conceptions and interpret our experiences to confirm their validity. The challenge of letting go and leaping into God’s arms continues to be the most important decision we face each day.
David is direct. Trust absolutely and completely because God is the answer. David does not try to convince us that our preconceptions and misconceptions are wrong, he just suggests we go around them! David knows all about doubts and weaknesses. David understands how we will fail in the future just as we have in the past. David knows these issues are not relevant to our decision no matter how important we think they might be. David, by his non-comment, suggests that bring these issues into our decision process is not only not helpful, but also wrong!
Making decisions of trust based on experience is natural. Making the first decision of trust in God based on facts we believe to be true, i.e. another person’s experience or life, is a valid method. Letting facts support our decision of trust can, if we observe and capture our own experience, be the step in our own journey.
David knows that his journey can never be yours or mine. David knows that we are responsible for only one thing, our choice with God.
Good advice, yours to take or leave.
