As a New Year approaches, I am aware that I have more gray hairs than not. I realize my age. There are days when I feel every day of it. However, most of the time I still feel as if I am much younger than the physical measure. When I look at my experiences, I find myself identifying with others who want to explore. I enjoy those willing to try the unknown. Life is for living. Change and wonder are integral to everyday.
I think this connects me across generations to those embracing the same ideas. When I see others relating across the gaps, I know I am not alone. Paul’s comment reflects the factual foundation I recognize. “And when your witness Stephen was murdered, I was right there, holding the coats of the murderers and cheering them on. And now they see me totally converted. What better qualification could I have?” (Acts 22.20) Yet, it was not enough to bridge the distance.
I find that there is another alternative. One does not always need to bridge the gap. One can pursue two courses of actions. One can reach across, nurturing when the opportunity arises. One can walk, live fully, and model what it is like to be connected to the heart of living.
In being available, one is making the benefits of experience available to those that are interested. For some, this is of interest. Timing, like many things in life, is critical.
In living fully and completely, one gives others a model (flawed as it is) of hope. While life is pulling towards less, one can see that there is More. It is a gift that lifts each that it touches.
The days march on relentlessly. As I wonder about the future, I can see that there are others reaching out to make a difference. Their gift to me gives me energy to walk on. There is an open invitation for others to join this community. It is a calling that we should consider. It comes with surprises and opportunities to make a difference.
