“God rules. On your toes, everybody!” Psalm 99.1
People in charge often have a problem, does anybody know or care about it! God has this problem in spades. People either do not know or do not care that he rules. God appears to be fully aware of our doubts and does the only thing he can do, be God.
Yesterday God interrupted my day twice. In hindsight, I am amazed that I noticed the interruption, much less followed his directions. It is only in reflection that I see how exquisite the timing and purpose of His rule for my life is always. If you are going to catch God’s voice in the midst of a hectic day, you must be on your toes! God makes interruptions; most of the time I miss them.
After a great lunch with my brother, I headed back to the office on the train. Taking advantage of the time, I began returning the telephone calls on my to do list. I began to dial my business partners’ number several times, however I kept getting the impression that I should stop by his office instead of calling. Finally I stopped and listened to the voice. The voice was crisp, clear, articulate, and carried no hint of a hidden agenda. Who knew? I stopped and it was the second best choice of my working day!
After several round robins of squash, I sat exhausted in the sauna. My body ached from the fresh exercise and every part of my body said that no movement was the answer. Again, an impression said I should get outside and on the way home. I started the journey without saying goodbye to my mates. As I switched trains, I realized that I was only half listening to the voice. I was to call home. I stopped and called. God gave me the perfect timing to rescue a daughter and mother caught in the crux of a homework crisis! Who knew? I listened and it was the best choice of my day!
God rules! Stay on your toes.
