“God, don’t shut me out; don’t give me the silent treatment, O God.” Psalm 83.1
The stories melt every heart. Life is tough and harsh. Life does not know who is good vs. who is bad. Life has a finality to it that seems unfair. For me, three lives will not go away.
Andy is eleven. Andy can tell you about circuits, transistors, and scientific facts. His cheerful attitude hide the fact that he is the eldest brother with responsibilities while his mother goes through a living hell. Andrew’s mother carries a disease where her nerves increasingly fail to communicate instructions for the blood to circulate. Because the circuit board buried in her body cannot withstand the pull of scar tissue, she is in for another replacement surgery. Where is God and why?
Three girls wander through their daily routines wondering if their mother will ever get well. A husband cries himself to sleep, worried that the diet pills he gave her to help will drag her into an abyss. The mother pleads with God for help, seeking assurance of acceptance and love, wondering if there is a way out of the darkness. Where is God and why?
A friend struggles to break free of the bonds that tie his soul. His caring friends carry destructive habits. His peers are unable to pull their loads and unwilling to take the corrective actions necessary to improve their health. His best friend fights wearing a cast during the hottest heat wave on record. Financial pressures increase with no relief in sight. Where is God and why?
God sees each situation and cries. God knows the details and desperately wants to the solution. God is not silent, no matter how quiet it seems to us. God is all –
Knowing,
Loving,
Accepting,
Present,
Merciful.
Where is God? Working the angles, giving the Presence of grace and love, and providing the courage so we can move forward. God is on trial. Is He fair? We are judges. Evil makes life miserable so we will not believe. Every choice reflects your answer.
