I love working with individuals that design and express things creatively. Each brings a unique yet disciplined, ultimately arithmetic based, no boundaries approach to life, problems, and opportunities that infuses me with hope! From designs through project and start-up ideas and on through to solutions, collaborating to take an idea into something that might be executable is an energising experience that leaves me with a thirst for more.
As I start a new day wrestling with conundrums and problems with no obvious solution, I find myself looking to architects for answers. The quest repeatedly leads me to the following observations.
Architects and problem solvers have work and accomplishments that they offer as reference. Sometimes one’s name speaks for itself — reputation and action having left their marks. It is good always good to take a fresh look at their handiwork. Some, a Psalmist comes to mind, talked about his reference check on Divinity; “You positioned the North and South Poles; the mountains Tabor and Hermon sing duets to you.” (Psalm 89.12)
Yesterday solution is a starting point for today. Great design principles never change. What they look like, how they function to and with others does. The recurring opportunity is to use and build on without loosing the core that sustains the heart of what it is.
Great outcomes are the collaboration of many. No matter how skilled, capable, or talented one might be, it usually takes the vision, insight, and abilities of many to bring the amazing and potentially beautiful outcome into existence.
I have been fortunate to work with talented artists, designers, and architects. In reflecting on what they have given me, I find myself thankful for the following.
I see more than I ever imagined being able to see. Beauty, wonder, and hope are just the beginning. The possible closely follows. So much can be accomplished with what we have at our disposal.
I understand the value of others. It is their wisdom, vision, and energy infused with what little I can bring that creates the potential for amazing outcomes.
I hear action’s call.
