As I waited for the motorcycle wash to finish, my attention drifted. It was a perfect day to be outside. The weather was inviting; warm but not cold, light breezes, and cloudy skies. The pace of everything around me relaxed to super casual. As they progressed with the bike, I could see the outcome bubbling up through a nearby manhole cover. I wonder if I should say anything. In the end, my attention was brought back to the bike and moving it to the spot for the final cleaning stage.
As I think of the bubbles and my attention, my thoughts are on the day ahead. Where will I focus? What will I attend to? My choices will tell the story of where my heart is being attentive. The lesson reminders I carry with me from yesterday provide the context.
Life is full of opportunities to make a difference; finding one’s calling begins within them. Life reminded me that nothing that was drawing my attention yesterday was wrong. With this freedom, I could hear calls to attention and action that were more important than the others. My choices reflected one writer’s observation of his; “But I don’t want to go on about them. It’s you, the outsiders, that I’m concerned with now. Because my personal assignment is focused on the so-called outsiders, I make as much of this as I can” (Romans 11.13)
Every contribution towards a better future for all matters. I have come to appreciate how important the unseen and unheralded contributions are to the greater story. Each builds momentum, empowering others to contribute as well. The measure of success lies in responding; to getting into the arena to wage battle for good. There is a reward within that reinforces courage, gives substance to hope, and solidifies belief.
One does not need to be perfect to contribute to a sustainable future. The story is told in being willing, able, and involved. With each step, one discovers an opportunity to learn, grow, and be inspired. May our action bubbles be an inspiration for making more.
