I love the way art can touch the essence of my soul. Transcending moods, events, and everything else going on in the moment, a work of art can reach through and change everything. As I sat contemplating the loss of my notebook due to a screen failure, I raised my head to see nature’s work of art dominating my vision, with a fun work of art on the wall providing a surreal background. It was, for me, a unique combination that carried my mind and heart in many directions.
We are part of a divine story. It is easy to lose sight of it. I find myself overwhelmed with tiredness and a foreboding sense of darkness in life’s busyness. I only see the immediate. In the most intense moments of reflection, I raise my head to discover Divinity’s work of art in a flower combined with an artist’s expression that is a gift of hope and possibilities. Fear flees and is replaced with opportunity. Doubts vanish in the laughter and smiles of a child. What seemed to be impending darkness is seen as the natural colours of love emerging in the morning light.
We, you and me, are part of a divine plan. I see Divinity in this world, fighting against injustice and crying with me in the never-ending pain and angst. I look to the sources of courage and resilience and find they stand beside hope and compassion. It is a powerful combination that gives me confidence that in caring to make a difference, my community and, in turn, other communities and beyond can be a better place. I hear a calling to be part of something much bigger than us. It is a just calling for good. It is a righteous calling for purpose. Everyone is a part of “God’s way – by which we are made fit for God by the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus.” (Hebrews 10.10)
Life has its ebbs and flows. It goes beyond one’s imagination. Welcome to the beauty of love, the softness of compassion, and the vase of caring.
