Belonging

“We are way overdue for a catch-up.”

It was a statement.  We stay in tough regularly through social media, calls, and frequent time for casual conversation.  Later, as I caught up with his girlfriend, she brought up the same subject.

“You guys should plan on catching up regularly.  At least every month, no take that back, every two weeks.  Even better, you should see each other at least once a week.”

As we talked later that day, I realized that I was relaxed and energized by catching up.  During the course of our conversation I could feel the release of things that had been building for awhile.  Little had directly to do with me.  While I knew most of the players involved in the stories, it was the angst that I recognized.  As we talked about it, empathizing, wondering, and imagining, ideas came into focus.  More importantly, the tension within went on a walk about.

As I woke this morning, I could sense the call to meditate and write.  It was an echo of the same words – “we are way overdue for a catch-up.”

Initially, my mind protested.  We spent time yesterday!  We have caught up everyday for as long as I can remember.  If I am correct, it is more than once a day, it is a reflection that is always there, even if it is faded at times.  Even in my protest, as I reflected and waiting for the Spirit to show, I realized my soul needed to reconnect.  In doing so, tension and uncertainties took a back seat, replaced by hope and opportunities.  If I ever had doubts there were gone because I understood how the experienced echoed the Psalmist’s observation; “because God’s your refuge, the High God your very own home.” (Psalm 91.9)

In knowing, I realized that you and I belong, even when we forget.

Hope and courage are friends, not mandates.

In the mist of ongoing chaos and uncertainty, Hope lives through how you and I respond to life.

We have a standing invitation to be in and with God.
