The succulent workshop sign in the lobby of an office tower caught me off guard. As odd as the placement of the sign was, I immediately knew someone who would love to attend. The pitch was so compelling, that even I will attend if I can. As I think about the pitch, it is an inspiring one for my life and how to live.
Plant my love. This is an interesting twist on how to frame out the goal for the day ahead. Take all the compassion, care, and community experiences I have been gifted and plant the experience seeds along the path and in the experiences of others I touch along the way. The actions are well-defined, within my control, and supported by what exists within.
Call to make my story creatively my own. I am invited to use my imagination and passions in a personalised style that is both natural and authentic. This is not about being qualified in advance. I do not have to declare my interest before getting started, everything is in place. It is a model established by Divinity; “Now think: Was that declaration made before or after he was marked by the covenant rite of circumcision? That’s right, before he was marked.” (Romans 4.10) The calling is here, now is the time.
The results belong with me; I get to “take it home”. The best thing about giving away compassion and care is what it does to my heart and soul. I experience compassion. I know what care feels like. The pain and anguish within in tangibly real. I know I need to deal with it. The workshop reminds me that planting my love in a story that is uniquely my own embeds the narrative deep within. When I do this, healing and restoration begin within.
I am inspired by the example set by succulent lovers in my circle of trusted relationships. I realise they are following this three-step model – leaving me with hope, courage, and energy. Today is my opportunity to follow their steps through intentional action and relationships.
