The reflection was captivating. The mosaic painted a pattern of light images that took me in many directions. As I reflected, I realized that every attempt to look beyond the images and the light ended in a wall of wood. For a time, I wondered why I could not see beyond. The obvious finally dawned, look at the original with an open mind. As the lesson whispers rolled, the ones which linger as the day begins include the following.
Hitting a wall is never the end, it is just a new beginning. I caught myself trying to look beyond the light only to see the wood. With repeated attempts to reach beyond, I initially concluded there was no solution to my quest. My thoughts echoed Paul; “I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question?” (Romans 7.24). In realizing I needed help; I also realized the first step was within my control. I could look beyond by turning and looking beyond the beyond.
The closer we are to the original, the closer we are to the centre, and the source. Each step towards the centre comes with more clarity, insight, and opportunity to experience truth. There is nothing wrong with using whatever light is available. The loss occurs when we settle for a candle instead of taking a step toward the sun. As each step brings new revelations, we have an opportunity to grow and grow again. The goal is in the process and journey, the destination comes at the end of a lifetime.
In knowing my need, I see my first decision lies in reaching for and accepting the help which is always here. In my reflection, I could see the wall. My answer came in the decision to turn, reaching for more, and finding Divinity waiting with open arms. In letting go, I found my purpose in the small steps of my day. Each moment is a new opportunity to experience Divinity and beyond.
