“Sunrise breaks through the darkness for good people – God’s grace and mercy and justice!” Psalm 112.4
Two girls died this week hiding under a tree during a thunderstorm. Their place of refuge became a death rod. I can only imagine the pain and questions left with their families. Why, how, where was God?
Four seasons come and go in one day while nobody acts surprised. Bright summer sun, dark rain of fall, spring recovery, and winter dullness are present for you to experience. You cannot escape the experience. Your eyes capture the colors and contrast. Your senses record the damp, chill, and heat. The combinations challenge your heart to grow through it all. Life and God’s interaction with us recorded and displayed by a supreme artist.
God’s grace, mercy, and justice breaks through no matter what season our lives are in. I admit that I often try to ignore the message and presence but God reaches out to touch our lives anyway. Taking the stairs down to the lower office floor, the sharp contrast in the scene outside strikes me in ways I do not understand. The bright sun streaks row after house row, green hills, and crowded streets. Dark, troubled skies offset the bright color below. Life captured in one moment of a busy day.
I pause and wonder. Where is God? The answer lies before me in a scene that stops all feelings. God is breaking through the darkness for all people. God is sending grace, mercy and justice in ways that defy understanding. God wants to break evil’s strangle hold on our lives. God wants to stop the pain, the lighting strikes, the sickness, and depression. God cries through it all, wanting more, loving always.
I know some see God as hard and just. I see God as passionate, soft, and loving. Passionate in His intensity to love and give mercy. Soft in sensing, feeling our pain and needs. Loving us exactly as we are, full of failures, pending rejection, and hypocrisy.
Sunrise breaks through the darkness for good people; that includes us!
