Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the sign inviting, no calling, me into the coffee shop. It was sunny and hot outside. The idea of a cold, invigorating refreshment was an answer many were looking for without thinking about it. The call to action was clear, even with minimal words. The invitation was open and welcoming. The spirit inviting. It was worthy of consideration, even as I sat quietly with my cup of hot black coffee.
My reflection in the moment has carried over to the beginning of my day. I hear a quiet call to action. The invitation stands out, clear and concise, on a day that threatens rain. As I consider the invitation and reminders that come with it, I see Life laying out guides for the steps ahead.
In the context of what one is feeling, a call to make a difference may not fit. Said another way, it is natural to prioritise self-care over taking care of others. As a matter of what comes first, one needs to ensure there is a foundation on which one can act. The question of others versus self in the next decisions is one of perspective. Starting with a “we” view opens the door to seeing each opportunity to make a difference as a stepping stone to happiness, peace, and a sense of fulfilment.
Seeing ourselves through the lens of community changes everything. We are all here to serve in our own unique way. An old example illustrates the point; “Priests descended from Levi are commanded by law to collect tithes from the people, even though they are all more or less equals, priests and people, having a common father in Abraham.” (Hebrews 7.5). In today’s context, I can take everything within and use it to contribute to those around me for a better future.
The call to action is both general and personal. Everyone is invited. My invitation comes alive with my words, choices, and decisions. Each moment is a gift that allows me to respond with kindness, care and compassion.
