As the light show unfolded on New Year’s Eve, the Burj Khalifa was the centre of attention. As the light show unfolded, I found myself watching and listening to Life using the colours and my emotional reactions as a canvas for creative reflections.
Being true to oneself is my foundation for everything that follows. It begins with life, goes deeper with relationships, and is memorialised in my experience. The calling is clear. “Love from the center of who you are; don’t fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good.” (Romans 12.9) In starting with love, kindness, and care at the centre of my being, I open a door to learning, growing, and always moving towards a better future.
Being on display creates doorways, internally and externally. I find it easy to believe in my dreams and the mythology of living in them. When I am living life as I am, the colours of the rainbow are out for everyone to see and experience. There will be feedback. Life will guide, at times even instruct. People will respond. When I listen from my heart, I will find opportunities to adjust my course, refine my dreams, and make a difference in my community.
There are seasons in everyone’s life. A moment in time does not need to define us tomorrow. While it reveals, it does not need to be the end. It is rather a beginning of what will come. There are times when laughter and celebration are one’s highest calling. There are also seasons of silence, quietness, and even tears. It is in being fully present in the moment that is now that one discovers and experiences the fullness of being alive. It is our opportunity to stand tall, acting on our heart’s values and priorities, revealing the best of what we can offer to those around us.
The Burj Khalifa was the centre of attention. In the moment, I embraced those who have reserved spaces within my heart. Each was standing tall. I pray I will stand tall today.
