As we walked off a wonderful dinner, we found a table for our post-dinner conversation. As I sat down, the table light reframed everything. In addition to being bathed in blue, the reflections in all directions were changed because of the light. While my eyes were focused on things beyond, I found myself drifting back to the centrepiece. With its own symbolism, the gentle lessons of the scene begin to play out then and now as I start my day.
Arrangements have been made for us. In this case, the soft blue centrepiece gifted us with an open invitation of quietness and peace, amplifying the best in everything that was around us. I caught myself accepting the opportunity to step into this space, unaware of the impact the setting was having on my heart and mind. As I reflect, I hear old words replaying themselves; “God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public – to set the world in the clear with himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins he had so patiently endured.” (Romans 3.25)
Full understanding is not required to receive the gifts available. In our conversation at the table, we began to observe the setting around us. From the centrepiece to reflections and beyond, there were observations brought to my attention. It was a wonderful way to see and understand what I otherwise would have missed. With each gift, I was filled with a sense of wonder and awe.
In experiencing, one opens a door to learning and growing. The centrepiece brought more than light to the table. With a soft approach, it quietly embraced everyone who came within its reach. I knew I had been touched. I could feel the peace and harmony radiating, as an unconditional invitation I could not refuse.
With the new day, the Spirit’s invitation to be a centre of harmony and acceptance remains.
