“Their grip is broken, we’re free as a bird in flight.” Psalm 124.7
The chains holding us down are as strong as we think they are. It may seem extremely simple, too much in fact, however knowing we are free is the battle. We do not need to be doing something about it as much as know we are as free as we think we are. Ah, that is the difficulty; we do not, and often cannot believe.
Individual chains can and do vary. For one, it is work, the pressures applied by a manager, or a seriously annoying peer. For another, it is family relationships, or rather the lack of supportive, nurturing, and considerate give and take between people you have known all your life. For some, we live with daily with the people that bind us. Anything and everything wraps us into one place. We may know the chains can be week, but it is so difficult to break free.
What we need to something that is stronger, more consistent, and incredibly durable to break our chains for us. We need the right type of power that will break them but not us. Doing it for on our own behalf is more difficult than one can imagine. I know of instances where the chain has broken for awhile, but they always come back! Even those who are strong, disciplined, and mentally tough are bound by some kind of chain. Look around and count the links. Do you think you can break free?
There is a simple, effective, and powerful answer, God. God is able, willing, and powerful enough to do the job. God also wants the job more than we can ever imagine! The great part is that He is already on your and my case, peeling away everything that binds us, before we even ask! All we need to do is understand who we are, recognize who he is, and say it is so.
Are you ready? Do you want to fly? Is soaring in your game plan? If so, look to God!
