“I too give witness to the greatness of God, our Lord, high above all other gods. He does just as he pleases – however, wherever, whenever.” Psalm 135.5
Looking at the evidence may give cause for some to doubt my belief and confidence in God above all other gods. This week, in the midst of the final days of radical change within my department, I realized just how strongly people have come to believe as I do but they wonder if I still have the vision and confidence. People have risks their professional lives to pursue a dream that we share. Their doubt, maybe it is a lingering fear or uncertainty, is something I must address through words and actions.
Ironically, I do believe without question that we can succeed in the work environment. We have the skills, intellect, commitment, and na?ve arrogance to achieve what is an insurmountable task. We planned our attack thoroughly. We executed on precise schedules. We reflected and checked our progress, taking corrective actions where needed. We are almost to the peak with a will to overcome. We are a team on the verge of victory!
In our relationship with God, there is a different dynamic at work. No matter how much I want to be, or you would like me to be, I cannot make your decision to accept God’s relationship. Every individual has the opportunity, responsibility, and ultimately the decision to make about their God gift. I cannot make it for you. I cannot even walk in your shoes. What I can do is share my walk, help carry your burdens, and walk with you.
I believe with all my heart that sharing our fears, uncertainties, doubts, frustration, and anger can help and encourage others in their journey. I also believe that it is critical to know, understand, and believe in what another holds most dear. I believe without a doubt and with total conviction and passion, that God is high above all other gods. He does whatever he pleases – which is to love unconditionally whenever and wherever he chooses.
