Vindication is nice; I would settle for a confirmation or even affirmation most of the time. It is as if the doubters have the upper hand; casting aside all hope, chances for a new beginning and at time even solutions to a problem at hand. It may sound like I am cynical, or at least consumed by doubts and battling a desire to whine. In truth I am a realist. I enjoy reality. I am filled with hope. I passionately want to make a difference. I also accept that many around me do not share this vision, carry this hope, or want to be part of the solution. The combination results in a realization of a reasonable probability others will not accept my view for the future at the present.
Coaches in all fields often have this problem. Those engaged in the day to day, minute by minute realities of the job/sport find it difficult to see beyond the immediate. There are problems to be solved! Everything that has gone before needs to continue. Things are that bad so why risk anything in trying to change.
In the midst of the uncertainty and unwillingness to move into the future there are the words of prediction. It is as if one foretells so the other can have a foundation on which to believe. If you would adjust your swing the ball will come off the racquet with more power. Predict, exercise, and confirm the results.
Jesus told those around him he was “telling you all this ahead of time so that when it happens you will believe that I am who I say I am.” (John 13.19) It was his statement of hope, certainty, and promise. It was later confirmed by those who heard the original words. God offers you and me the same approach. God gives us the promise of peace lined with compassion, hope from living in the grace of the moment, and purpose as one understands the unconditional acceptance of people standing before Divinity. The confirmation comes with our experience. Come, taste, and know.
