There are two insights, one from an author, another from a close friend. Initial pieces emerged during a period in my life filled with discoveries, insights, and self-awareness. Buried in the discoveries was a book describing the connection between personality types and Divine conversations. The study was large enough to be credible. It was also specific enough to be useful. After reading, I was left with a conviction on what I needed to do if I wanted to ensure ongoing consistency between my heart and my actions.
More than two decades later, in a conversation so casual one might think one would easily forget it, a trusted friend created a pause in my thinking. His advice on my intent of sharing stories of discovering Life’s whispers with a goal of helping others discover their own, was simple, blunt, and direct.
“Bill, never stop writing. Write every day. Your life depends on this.”
The statement had a loose connection to talking about his reaction to a specific story, but it was not linked to anything before and after.
I have never forgotten the way his words pieced my armor which isolated my heart and mind from the influence of others. It connected perfectly with the study two decades earlier. I heard the words as more than advice. Frankly, it was a command instruction.
For those who have followed me, there is evidence that on more than one occasion I did not follow his command, or the advance revealed through the study. However, Life recently reminded me of how experience has confirmed the truth filled applicability to my steps.
I write of my discoveries and how Life continues to teach. I do not always listen and yet the Whispers continue without interruption. My best response is to replay the psalm; “All my life long I’ll praise God, singing songs to my God as long as I live.” (Psalm 146.2).
My prayer is that you discover and embrace the Whispers of truth and teaching within your life. They will be different from mine, each wonderfully unique and tailored.
