Abu Dhabi construction cranes can be seen from almost every vantage point in the city. The city is growing in every area, from the city to the islands, industrial areas, and undeveloped sand bars. It is interesting to see which projects get started and move with pace versus those that slowly start, stop, and, with an unpredictable passage of time, start again. As I considered the reflection of a building that has been under construction for some time, I could hear Life sharing whispers to frame my day ahead.
Projects will not continue and may never finish without commitment, resources, and perseverance. This applies to building projects as well as lives under construction. I like to think that I have arrived and that it is time to celebrate the “topping” of my development. As I plan a mini-celebration, I rediscover how much work and potential there is within my heart and mind. I can be more than I am. I can contribute to making the world a better place. There is work to be done, inside and out. An old reminder applies; “Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.” (Hebrews 6.12)
Projects are all about moving forward and continuing the build without forgetting the foundation and what went before. Cranes reached into the sky. Concurrently, they remember and dip into what had gone before. From reflections to counterbalancing the forces required to lift materials and more, moving forward calls for a solid foundation and a connection to what has already happened. We cannot forget our past, especially when we are unconditionally accepted and supported in our journey to being more.
Quality and living are found in the process, not the destination. It is easy to look at the shiny results. As impressive as this can be, the real story is told in the quiet moments when nobody is looking. This is where one reveals character and quality.
Today is a time of building and living. May my construction be perfect and acceptable.
