There are many who see business leaders and corporations as towers of intellectual strength and discovery. I can remember the awe that prevailed in the room the first time I said that I was going to work for a Bank. It only increased when I said it was the corporate bank. After more than two decades in a wide variety of institutions that have been held is high esteem I find myself wondering what these corporate animals have ever done to deserve such recognition and praise.
The cynical reaction by those on the inside these days too many a presentation or speech goes along the following lines.
“Did you sit in on the presentation (web cast) today?
“No, I missed it. What was said?”
“The normal blah, blah, blah.”
“Was there anything new in the blah, blah, blah?”
“Not really.”
“Any content at all?”
“No and you could tell that the audience knew that.”
“Why?”
“Because there isn’t anything to say and they knew it. The show was just for….”
For a time space is full of nothingness, sounds that have no meaning, impact, or purpose greater than glorifying the speaker. The ripples in the air quickly fade and nothing remains. In contrast to this are the words that come from someone who cares from the deepest depths of their soul. “When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.” (Proverbs 31.26)
Where are fountains of wisdom found? Who stands the test of time? What makes a fundamental difference in the lives of the listeners who take and head these words?
I have been blessed to have people in my life that cared more about me than I did about myself. The result of being surrounded and buried by their words of care, love, mercy, acceptance, and accountability fundamentally altered the course of my life and directed me to the ultimate source of Recreation.
The blessings that you and I have received are real and present. What will we do with them today? Words with content or blah, blah, blah?
