Last night I spent several hours with two friends, reminiscing about the past, dreaming about the future. As the snow fell, we shared our differing views and values for life. I came away refreshed, energized, fearful, and looking towards God.
When people share similar priorities and values with hope, discussing the issues of life allows the hope to grow and strengthen. In my experience people walk away from the conversations encouraged, bolstered, and more ready to take on the problems of the day. I am not sure that we solve very many problems during the conversation, but we do find the journey easier to walk knowing there are others who walk it with us.
When differing perspectives, priorities, and concerns are out on the table, there is an opportunity to grow in our understanding of others. Growing with others creates a bond of experience and trust that you cannot easily replicate. Struggling through life issues, relationship and personal, broadens the foundation on which we work together. I am responsible for the answers to my life’s questions, so I do not go looking for specific decisions from others for my life. The shared struggle to deal with everything coming at you energizes the soul, especially when everyone parks clich?s far away!
I came away last night talking to God. I wondered aloud about my dreams, expressed my fears, and left everything with Him. In faith, I held onto Paul’s words. “God sets things right. He also makes is possible to live in his rightness.” (Romans 3.26)
In the cold morning light, I realize that God wants to spend lots of time with me each day. God wants to reminisce about the past; helping me to recall the many ways he worked out grace and love in my life. He wants to dream with me about the future, looking at all the things that will be. God wants to take my burdens, share my tears, and soothe my worries.
God is looking to have conversations with you and I. He set things right just so we can begin!
