Conversations turn on strange pivot points. There are conversations where I haven’t been sure who I was talking was. I knew a lot about the individual – where they were from, some of their likes and dislikes, family details, and even some personal information. What I did not know was the basics. This included the following questions.
Who are they?
Where do they fit – live and work?
What are their priorities?
What are their hot-buttons?
What is their mission?
Our conversations took many twists and turns, leading to who knows where and even more bizarrely, who knows why? Without any reference points I was the blind leading the blind. When this happens as part of a conversation with a stranger on a flight, we could easily tick it off as one thing or another. When this describes our conversation to date with the Supreme Being then I suggest we need to have a fresh examination. Are we ignoring something that is potential life changing? Regardless of your view as to God motives, threatening or saving, the conversation is important!
To help in the process of discovering just who you are talking to let me let God provide a Divine introduction.
“The Beginning and Ending, the First and Final One, the Once Dead and Then Come Alive, speaks:” (Revelation 2.7)
The words are, as God and Englishmen frequently describe, understated to a level almost beyond comprehension. Beginning, Ending? First, Final? Once Dead, Come Alive? The words have, as a result of listening to God come to mean many things. They include Sovereign, Universal, All Powerful, Timeless, Divinity, Savior, Messenger, Creator, Wisdom, Beauty, Awe, Redeemer, and Father. However one description is missing from my God conversations, He is also a Friend – the best, ultimate, and most constant friend I have ever imagined.
The invitation for a conversation is open. I can promise you something interesting, thirst quenching, and life changing. Yet for now I would suggest just listening – hear with a fresh and open mind what God has to say to you, in this day and in this moment.
