There is a lot of trauma in the lives of individuals around me. At the beginning, several are facing changing work situations, waves of excitement and uncertainty that come with moving into new homes, and changing relationships. Each seems to be trying to read the indications of what is to come! They want to be prepared. They are trying to hold Hope's hand. They want to be strong.
I can identify with their fears, uncertainties, and doubts. Life is constantly talking to us. One ends up listening, interpreting, and reacting, even when one thinks they have blocked ever avenue of communication. There is a flood of indications, messages, and implied conclusions. As I consider the challenges of those around me, and to myself, I would offer the following observations.
What one thinks is obvious, usually is not. When others take decisions, it is far more likely that they are about their issues, challenges, and opportunities than it is about yours. Candidly, most decisions are selfish. There is no commentary about our self, contributions, or worth.
Second, just because a fact or statement appears to be truthful does not mean that our deduction is accurate. When someone built God a temple a prophet observation resonated in contraction to the obvious conclusions; “That doesn't mean that Most High God lives in a building made by carpenters and masons.” (Acts 7.48) When someone tells you that you are no longer needed, whatever conclusion one might draw about one's self has no relationship to the statement.
Third, freedom gives each the opportunity to move forward in harmony with our strengths, valued, and abilities. Yesterday's choices, by others and even by ourselves, do not determine our options in the moment at hand. God gives each the freedom to start fresh.
There are deductions I know you and I can accurately make from life's events. You and I are gifted children of God. You and I can make a difference. You and I can be agents of compassion, love, and community. Your choices and mine describe our destinations from this moment forward.
