With all the rhetoric, plans, objectives, and counseling sessions, you would think that we would know what direction our actions are taking us. Given the time and investment talking about the future, analyzing alternatives, and weighing the options, the destination and choices are clear, right? Now that we are all grown up, the demons of youthful emotional reactions behind us, and the benefits of experience, maturity, and wisdom are available, we know why we are here, correct?
The answers are: we do not, no, and no.
When we talk of destinations in life, we often use words associated with a journey. We seek fulfillment, happiness, peace, and satisfaction. Regardless of where we end up, we want to experience or achieve these things. We appear to ignore the destination in pursuit of something along the way. Perhaps, we have it backwards.
God lays out what he is and is like. God offers us a clear-cut destination with a simple offer; come to me, be with me as restored beings, and live with me forever. The results along the way are outlined; light burdens, presence of a comforter at all times, and heavy fighting along the way. It seems that if we are going to be with God nobody is going to like us! If fact they will attack, mock, ridicule, and finally in a sense of desperation, try to kill us.
Do we understand the destination? God offers us unlimited love and opportunity! God welcomes us to a place where we live as friends without pain, tears, and turmoil. Nobody, no belief system, and no other religion offers this type of destination.
The choice is clear, but, what about getting there?
God says he is going to do all of the work, in fact the bulk of the work and the tough parts are already complete! Our path is to live out the principles in every facet of life. “If you teach, stick to your teaching; if you give encouraging guidance, be careful that you don’t get bossy.” (Romans 12.7,8)
Today is an opportunity to experience God.
