“Thank God, who did it all! His love never quits!” Psalm 136.26
Details kill potential opportunities faster than bad decisions. You never know what level of detail to stop with when you are pursuing a goal. Too little and your work is sloppy and potentially unacceptable. Too much and you face the charge of being slow, tedious, and obsessive. The ability to weave your way through, tackling problems with just enough detail is one that most of us will struggle with every day of our life.
I have a friend who is an artist. Watching his patience with emerging art continues to teach me valuable lessons. When is a picture really done, finally complete. The answer is you do not know until you know. Patience is the key. The willingness to work past your comfort zone, and the ability to sit and wait are crucial ingredients.
God approached his relationship with us worrying about the details. He prepared for the possibility that we would walk, we did. We found it difficult to listen so God confronted our weakness and responded with relationship. Evil challenged God – Job, Jesus in the Wilderness, and Paul on the Damascus road, are examples. People went on the attack. King David challenged God on so many fronts (murder, affairs, anger, disobedience) that one wonders how he ever became God’s man. Also there are stories of the most evil man to ever live (Manassah), the smartest playboy (Solomon), the list goes on. God covered every contingency. He actions gave Him the freedom to offer us unconditional relationship – if we want it.
Your life’s details and mine are different yet the same. We struggle to know who we are, we thirst to know God, and we wonder why God would have us. God’s details take care of the need for our details if we do one thing – give up. We just wait in the Presence with patience, willing to let God’s truth change us from the inside out. This formula provides the details for heaven on earth. Thank God, who does it all!
