It is easy to forget the power of small things. I woke this morning with just a small spot of sun hitting the corner of my bed. It was as if God has put a heater directly on my leg yet it was different. It was a natural, soothing, and very intense heat that seemed to just “be”. I could move my leg and everything was the “norm”. Move it back and it was as if a soothing balm began to ease the tensions and struggles captured in the aging muscles.
Springtime is a wonderful part of the year. New beginnings are showing everyone one cares to look. Overwhelming Hope fills the air, almost as it there have been unseen tenders through the winter. Everywhere something beautiful is emerging.
I wonder if you and I realize how important we are in this equation. We have an integral role to play! If we do not reach out and introduce others to hope, who will? If we do not take care of those hurting, who will? If we do not share the love, mercy, and acceptance we find in Hope, is anyone going to step up and take our place? There is far too many people hurting to not do our part. We have opportunities, presence, and motive – we should be guilty. Yet far too often I find myself innocent.
Some see the power which comes through the gift of hope as a tool for manipulation. When one group needed help the solution was simple; “‘dispatch a gift of lambs,’ says Moab, ‘to the leaders in Jerusalem—lambs from Sela sent across the desert to buy the goodwill of Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 16.1) Yet Hope is not an exclusive resource. Divinity has, is making it available to all. For those who cannot see, are unable to reach, and even at times unaware of their thirst, it is up to you and I – we are the cup bearers.
The sun’s up – bright, bold, and full of life. I know I am part of spring. It’s a wonderful time to live.
