As I sat in the lounge waiting for my flight, the waves of reflection kept washing over me. Past flight departures from this terminal, pictures captured and shared, and conversations I had long forgotten, all came and went. The section I was sitting in was empty. The result was an awareness that I was alone and lost in my thoughts.
The sound of a dish being placed in front of me broke my concentration. I looked up to see a fresh bowl of fruit. The blackberries and grapes were amazing. As I slowly worked my way through them, every bite brought a different memory. These memories were distinctly different than my thoughts moments before. Each taste of a fruit transported me to a distinct place filled with friends and conversations.
The blackberries took me to Oregon, watermelon to Florida, and grapes to California. I smiled at the way the waiter and his simple act of kindness were teaching me. As a gentle peace mixed with hope lingered, I considered my lessons in the moment.
Nature’s best can stand up to any chef’s creation. While I have had some amazing dishes, the simplicity, and flavours to me to a place filled with friends, love, relationship, and hope. Life does not always need to be complicated. In the ordinary one finds life’s greatest pearls. Friends enrich life in a unique way. Love restores our hearts and minds. Relationship often invites her close friends, courage, and commitment.
In every bite, there is clarity. I knew exactly what I was eating. There was a simple joy in knowing. As I step into today, I hear the reminder, with a clarity I seemed to have lost recently. “Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the Cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life – no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this:” (Romans 6.6)
Today will be a unique story. I know what I bring with me. It is time to live, informed, aware, and to the maximum.
