The pitch was incredible. It had a tightness to it which spoke to the founder’s insight, conviction, and optimism. From what I heard, I wanted to believe. With what I knew going in, traditional questions had been addressed and there was a plan which captured many of the learnings from my journey.
The response to my reaction a day later changed everything.
“Thank-you for the update. Please consider the following actions which have been going on behind the scenes.” The crisp bullets gave me a picture of the founder’s decisions and actions. While a few were choices of preference, there were also choices which broke the relationship and agreement I was a part of.
As I considered my options, I could hear advice offered centuries ago echoing; “Use your heads! Do you suppose for a minute that you can cut faith and works in two and not end up with a corpse on your hands?” (James 2.20). It may have been applied in the past to a different setting, yet on this day it was the whispering lesson which took me back to a truth connection.
My response to the note of caution triggered more reflection. “Thank-you for the insight. I appreciate you taking the time to share with confidence. I will honor my willingness to have a follow-on conversation however it will end there.”
I am thankful Divinity is willing to work through my weaknesses. I often fail my agreements and commitments. The connections between words of faith and the future given my actions and works will remain fragile and tenuous. As I trace the dots in my life, I see an opportunity framed by response and renewal.
The starting point is one of grateful humbleness. Divinity is defined by unconditional love and compassion. As I understand and accept who She is, I find myself humbled to be able to rest in the Divinity’s Presence. In seeing the gaps in my life, I am grateful to the offer of help and restoration She brings. In learning and growing, the dots point to purpose and peace.
